What is the E-1 Visa?

The E-1 visa allows citizens of countries with trade agreements with the United States to enter the country to conduct substantial trade primarily between their home country and the U.S. This visa is intended for entrepreneurs, executives, key employees, and merchants who wish to expand their business operations.

Requirements for the E-1 Visa

General applicant requirements
  • Being a citizen of a country with a trade agreement with the U.S.
  • Conduct substantial trade between the U.S. and the applicant's country (more than 50% of the trade must be between the two countries).
  • Being in an essential position within the company (owner, executive or key employee).
  • Intending to leave the U.S. after the authorized activity is completed.
General applicant requirements:
  • Trade in goods, services or technology.
  • High and constant transaction volume (no specific amount required, but continuous and significant activity is required).

  • Executives or essential employees of eligible companies.
  • Companies that already trade with the U.S. or wish to formally increase their trade.
