Questions about moving to the US do not stop once you pick a visa. They show up when you think about your company, your money, your family and your timeline. Where do I start? Which visa fits my profile? How much do I need to invest? How do I protect my assets?

That is why we closed Amerigo Legal Group's Soft Landing course with a different kind of session: a live Q&A where attendees could get answers on how to settle, start a business and develop opportunities in the United States. The session was presented in Spanish.

The short answer: most questions are resolved with a solid assessment. Once you define your goal, profile, capital and timeline, it becomes much easier to see which immigration paths are worth exploring and which are not. Session 5 is available for free below.

What Session 5 of the Soft Landing course was about

Session 5 was the course finale. It streamed live on YouTube on Monday, November 2, 2026, from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. (Miami time), with an open format: instead of a lecture, attendees asked their questions and got answers in real time.

The goal was simple: help every participant leave the course with more confidence and knowledge to take the next step, whether that means starting a business, investing, relocating a company or growing a career in the United States.

6 questions about moving to the US, answered

These are some of the questions we hear most often from Latin American entrepreneurs and investors. The answers are general; your case may have nuances that only an individual review will reveal.

1. Which visa is right for me?

It depends on your goal, nationality, capital and track record. If you will invest in a business you will direct, the E-2 visa is often one of the first options to review (if your country has a treaty). If you own a company abroad, the L-1 visa may be a path. If you want a green card through investment, there is the EB-5 visa. And if your strength is your career, there are talent-based visas.

2. How much do I need to invest?

The E-2 visa has no fixed minimum in the law: the investment must be substantial in relation to the business. The EB-5 does set amounts: $1,050,000, or $800,000 in targeted employment areas or infrastructure projects, according to USCIS. These figures can be adjusted, so verify them before you decide.

3. Can my family come with me?

In many investor and business visas, your spouse and unmarried children under 21 can join you as dependents. Study and work conditions vary by category.

4. Do I need prior business experience?

It is not always a formal requirement, but you do need to show you can develop and direct the business. We explain it in can you get an E-2 visa without prior business experience?

5. How long does the process take?

Timelines depend on the visa, the consulate or USCIS, and how well the case is prepared. A strong file from day one helps avoid delays caused by requests for additional evidence.

6. What if the laws change?

Immigration policy can change. That is why it pays to plan ahead and review your strategy with your attorney as you move forward.

Why strategy matters more than paperwork

Many questions about moving to the US come from seeing the process as a list of forms. In practice, what makes the difference is strategy: how the investment is structured, how the source of funds is documented, how the business plan is presented and in what order decisions are made.

Important: no strategy guarantees visa approval. Every case is different and is evaluated individually.

Before you take the step: checklist

  • Is your goal clear: invest, expand your company, work or reside?
  • Do you know whether your country has a trade or investment treaty with the US?
  • Do you know how much capital you can commit and can you document its source?
  • Do you have a plan for your family and your timeline?
  • Have you watched all five Soft Landing sessions?
